The 10th EDF Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures Project concluded in April 2017, after an implementation period of 42 months which commenced in 2013. Project achievements including brochures, flyers, leaflets, posters, manuals, reports, studies, and videos are available on this page.
◼INFOGRAPHICS
How to Handle... Safe Seafood Standards / SPS Factsheet #2
This infographic focuses on food handling and safe seafood standards. It also provides context on the economic impact of the sector, including its contributions to export and trade. This factsheet was published in August 2015 by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism, with support from the EU-funded, under the 10th EDF SPS Project, executed by IICA.

◼ PROJECT REPORTS
◼ STUDIES
This is a comprehensive report on the Cost-Benefit Analysis & Impact of Compliance and Non-compliance with Sanitary and Phytosanitary requirement for CARIFORUM Countries. This is based on a study that was undertaken between September 1, 2016, to March 10, 2017, under the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures Programme managed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) under the European Union (EU)-funded 10th European Development Fund (EDF). The study, which utilizes production and trade data published by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), demonstrates the importance of strengthening of public sector SPS control systems and implementation by agri-food business operators should be strongly supported by national and regional policy measures.
◼ MANUALS
FISHERIES MANUALS
Manual on Assuring Food Safety Conditions in Fish Landing and Processing
This operational manual was published by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) under the Special Publications Series as one of eight manuals aimed at providing structured guidelines to help ensure the safety of fish and fishery products for human consumption, through best practices and official controls. This is one of several outputs of the EU-funded 10th EDF Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Project, under efforts for “Capacity Building of regulatory and industry stakeholders in Aquaculture and Fisheries Health and Food Safety to meet the SPS requirements of international trade”, implemented by Megapesca Lda, Portugal. The manual is based on current international best practices and draws on the requirements expressed within the EC and US legislation, as well as Codex Alimentarius Standards. However, additional specific requirements have been added, where these are considered to contribute significantly to improved food safety within the context of the Caribbean fishery sector.
Several manuals are available in English, Spanish, French, and Dutch.
